The solar system at Radio Builsa is being repaired
Repairing the solar system at Radio Builsa in northern Ghana plays a central role in people’s lives. With the majority of the population unable to read, the radio is an essential source of information. Programmes are broadcast in the local languages of Buli, Frafra and Kasem, making information accessible to everyone.
Our goals:
Reducing electricity costs: The aim is to reduce electricity costs by at least 20 per cent.
Ensuring a stable power supply: Ensuring a continuous power supply for 12 hours a day to significantly improve the reliability of information transmission.
Provide long-term support to the region: Ensuring the supply of information to the region.
Realisation:
Repair team: A team of local technicians trained by FairTrade Energy carried out the repairs under the supervision of our chief installer.
Monitoring tools: Integration of monitoring tools to recognise potential problems at an early stage and ensure the long-term operation of the solar system.
Results:
Fully functional solar system: The repairs were successfully completed within three days and the solar system is now fully functional again. This means that Radio Builsa can continue broadcasting without the constant interruptions caused by power cuts.
More stable and more favourable energy supply: Radio Builsa’s energy supply has been improved so that the ongoing operating costs per broadcasting time have been reduced again.
Monitoring and evaluation
Now that the repair of Radio Builsa’s solar installation has been completed, we can monitor the daily consumption, temperature, production and state of charge of the battery via the inverter’s manufacturer portal. To ensure transparency and progress of the project, we plan to publish the statistics weekly in a dedicated portfolio post on our website.
